Karwa Chauth Story

The story of Queen Veervati is one of the most popular mythological stories of Karwa Chauth fast. This story depicts the love, dedication of an ideal wife and the power of her prayers for the long life of her husband. Let us understand this story in detail:

In ancient times, a king had a sister named Veervati, who was very beautiful and kind. She was the beloved sister of her seven brothers. After marriage, she kept her first Karwa Chauth fast. Veervati was suffering a lot from hunger and thirst due to keeping a Nirjala fast for the first time, but she refused to break the fast, as it was against the rules to break the fast before the sighting of the moon.

Veervati’s brothers became very worried after seeing their sister’s condition. They did not want their sister to suffer further, so they played a trick. The brothers placed a mirror on a high branch of a tree and created such an illusion that Veervati thought the moon had come out. Veervati saw the moon shown by the brothers and broke the fast.

As soon as Veervati broke the fast, she got the news that her husband had died. Hearing this, she became extremely sad and prayed with all her heart that her husband should not be taken away from her due to her mistake. Veervati started penance to Karva Mata and Lord Shiva to get her husband’s life back.

Veervati’s Penance and Rebirth:

Karva Mata was pleased with Veervati’s true devotion and dedication. Karva Mata instructed her to observe the fast of Karva Chauth with full devotion and this time break the fast only after seeing the moon. Veervati observed this fast with full devotion and rituals. Impressed by her devotion and dedication, Lord Yamraj gave life to her husband. Thus, Veervati was successful in bringing her husband back to life.

Message of the Story:

This story is considered as a symbol of unbreakable bond and true love between husband and wife. The main purpose of the fast of Karva Chauth is to pray for the long life and prosperity of the husband, and this fast is inspired by the story of Queen Veervati. According to this legend, even God becomes pleased with true love, dedication, and devotion and helps in difficult times in life.
